LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Five years after Hurricane Laura’s devastating path of destruction, KPLC is looking forward to the future.
In 2020, Hurricane Laura destroyed the building that housed our station’s operational hub and tower. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Saturday for the unveiling of our new studio on Division Street. In addition to the unveiling, we also celebrated KPLC’s 70th anniversary year with friends, family and many other special guests on Saturday.
“I can’t believe its been 20 years,” Breland said. “I remember like it was yesterday because we felt like we were such a key part to helping that city come back. I mean, it’s our city, and I think the same here in Lake Charles. KPLC is part of the fabric of this community. There was no question that we were not going to rebuild. Of course we’re going to rebuild. The station has been serving the community for 70 years.”
We are so thankful to be able to continue our coverage of the unique culture here in Southwest Louisiana. Thank you for watching and for sharing your stories with KPLC. We hope to be “at your service” for another 70 great years.
